a a a THE LEBANON EXPRESS Vows Are Taken In Navy Chapel A wedding of interest to Lebanon and Albany residents took place at Shumaker, Calif, in the chapel of the navy hospital, Sunday, Oct. 21 at 3:30. p. m. when Miss Joyce Hayes, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Leslie Hayes of route 3, Albany, became the bride. of Rodney C. Cox, H.A. of the U.

S. navy hospital staff. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cox or Lebanon Ever hart, U.S.

N. performed the ceremony at the chapel's alter which was deeply banked in pink gladiolus and ferns. The bride wore a tailored three piece ensemble of dusty rose with brown accessories, and corsage white gardenias and white sweet peas. As her parents were unable to. be- present, she: was accompanied the the altar by the groom's father, to pipe organ strains of Lohengrin's wedding march.

A special, number, "Because" was while the guests assembled. After the ceremony a wedding dinner was served to the bridal party at one of San Francisco's famous restaurants. Among out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Claude Cox, parents the groom, Mrs.

Frank Hutto of Portland, aunt of the groom and Richard D. Cox, his brother. The groom recently graduated from corpsmen's naval training in San Diego, is a graduate of Lebanon high school. He is now attached to the naval hospital staff at Shumaker and the young couple will make their temporary home at 527 Second street in nearby Hayward, Calif. Service Society Hears Reports A pot luck luncheon at 1 p.m.

preceded monthly business meeting of the Women's Society of Christian service. Mavia Gilson led the worship service and Peggy reported on the need of the peoples in all the war ravaged countries and voiced a plea for contributions to the national- war fund. Erma Kent reported on the China situation telling of its people carrying on as best they can in the face of great hardships. The society will hold its November meeting on Nov. 28, a visiting speaker, Faith Morgan of Junction City, will be a guest.

Study Club Meets At Schmidt Home The Study Club met on the afternoon of Oct. 23 at the home of Mrs. Harvey Schmidt. After a short business meeting during which the club voted a donation to the war chest. a recent book, The World, the Flesh and Father Smith" was ably reviewed by Mrs.

George Britton. A social hour followed the serving of refreshments by the hostess. The club's next meeting will be with Mrs. Dennis Cormier on Nov. 13, the theme to be relations by Mrs.

Kenneth Eichner. Miss Mary Fields 5 Weds H. L. Kassan, Announcement was made last week by Mr. and Mrs.

H. E. Fields of 316 Rose street, of the marriage of their daughter Mary, to H. Lee Kasson on Sept. 29 at the Baptist church in Oakland, Calif.

The bride wore a gold dress with black accessories and double orchid corsage. Attending the couple at the double ring ceremony was Mr. and Mrs. Louis Resser of Oakland. The groom, son of Mrs.

Charlotte Kasson Hildler, is a former Lebanon high school student as is the bride. He is in the navy, and the couple will live in Oakland temporarily, pending his orders. following the wedding Mr. and Mrs. Kasson came to Lebanon for a short visit with the bride's par: ents.

The couple were honored guests at a family dinner. on Sunday Oct. 21 at the home of the bride's father and mother, a two-tier wedding cake with minature bride and groom being a surprise feature of the occasion. Another event of their home visit was a surprise bridal shower honoring Mrs. Kasson on Oct.

24 at the home of Mrs. C. E. Fields. Halloween decorations and colorful autumn flowers were the motifs of decoration in the living rooms.

Many lovely gifts were tendered with good wishes from the 15 guests who had gathered to honor the young matron Mr. and. Mrs. Kasson will return to California on Nov. 15.

Herbert Ames celebrated their, marriage anniversary with their children and seven grandchfidren gathering at these Sunday to enjoy a family dinner and commemorate the wedding of 60 years ago. at Kanaranzi, on 1885, Mr. and Mrs. Married, Ames soon moved by covered wagon down the Mississippi valDey and were settlers to stake a claim in the Cherokee strip country in Oklahoma territory. Here Mr.

Ames engaged in farming and occasionally made freighting trips to the nearer frontier settlements with loads of farm produce. It was 6n such an excusion to Canadian, Texas that the couple had a near fatal accident when lightening from midsummer thunderstorm struck their outfit, killing two of their four horses and so severely injuring Mrs. Ames that she lay in a coma for several days and still carries scars of the severe burns she received. Shortly after this experience they decided to come west and a few years after the dawn of the century found them in Tacoma, ployed. 08 sawmill engineer.

Later they came to southern Orecon and tried their luck in the Gold HAI diggings. The call of the however proved ther strongest tie and for the past 30 years they have made their home at Sodaville, first on a farm in. that vicinity and in later years in a town cottage. grandchildren, four of whom are in military service and another one recently discharged, and two great-grandchildren: Mrs. Ames, age 77 is interested in quilts. She pieces them in tiny, intricate blocks and does her own quilting. Vows Exchanged in Double Ring Rites Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Pieschke of 291 Caroline place announce the marriage of their daughter, Evelyn Ruth to Sgt. James P. Gilbert of Woodland, California.

A small reception was held afterwards at the bride's apartment. The 47th wedding anniversary of the groom's parents was also celebrated on that Mr. Rainey reports to Bremerton, for reassignment upon completion of his leave. The couple is temporarily living in Portland. O.

attended the Willamette association of matrons and partons last Saturday evening, in Salem. The valley chapters' were well represented with a total attendance of 70. After a short business meeting, the evening was spent in community singing and getting acquainted. Later refreshments were served in the downstairs. dining room.
