Lebanon (OR) Express, Wednesday, May 6, 1998 A5 Obituaries Monday, April 27 at the Weddle Funeral Home Chapel in Stayton. Inurnment was at Ocean ViewSunset Cemetery in Eureka, Calif. Smalley was born in Fortuna, Calif. She moved to Scio in 1972 from California, then to Lebanon in 1976. She worked as a fountain worker at Adam's Rexall Pharmacy in Lebanon for 12 years.

She was a member of the First Church of God in Lebanon. Her hobbies included refurbishing castaway dolls for abused children through the Corvallis Police Department. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking. She also enjoyed helping others; she was involved in 4H, teaching, baking and cake decorating. She married Jack Smalley on May 30, 1941.

He survives. Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-j law, Lynda and Mike Moore of Areata, Lebanon Christian Church Youth Leadership and Junior High summer camps. She also attended Albany First Christian Church. She married Joseph D. Morse on June 16, 1939 in Harrisburg.

She is survived by her husband, Joseph; two daughters, Judy McBride of Cocolalla, Idaho and Ann Novakavich of Curlew, two sons, Frank Morse of Albany and Jon Morse of Veneta; one brother, Clifford Price of Vancouver, B.C. and one sister, Grace Crowe of Springfield; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the National Benevolent Association in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Third and Washington, P.O. Box 156, Albany, OR 97321. Vera Smalley Vera L.

Smalley, 77, of Lebanon, died Saturday, April 25. Memorial services were held ter of pioneers. The family's original land grant included the present University of Oregon campus, North West Christian College campus and Sacred Heart Hospital campus in Eugene. She was an active athlete in her youth, and was a starting guard on the State Championship Basketball Team at Marcola High School. Morse was instrumental in starting Morse Inc.

in 1941. She worked for the company as a bookkeeper. She lived in Lebanon from 1946 to the 1970s. She lived in Eugene for several years before moving to Albany in the mid-1980s. She had lived there since.

For the past 1 5 years, she was very involved in researching the Morse Family genealogy. She enjoyed writing poetry and short stories. She was a homemaker who was a past board member of P.E.O., Disciples of Christ Oregon, Disciples of Christ National, McDowell-Catt Foundation and the Untied Christian Missionary Society. She was active in Center in Albany in care of Fisher Funeral Home, Third and Washington, P.O. Box 156, Albany, OR 97321.

Marjorie Gertrude Morse Marjorie Gertrude Morse, 78, of Albany, died Saturday, April 2,5 at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, Ariz. A memorial service was held at First Christian Church in Albany or Friday, May 1 with Pastor Ray Lindley and pastor Cindy Lindner officiating. Burial followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Lebanon. She was born in Marcola on May 8, 1 91 9 to Warren C.

He was a devoted family man and enjoyed his daughters and their families. He was especially fond of little children.

He spent time with his sons-in-law fishing and hunting and enjoyed the times he could spend with his grandchildren and greatgrandchildren. An avid fisherman and hunter, he and his wife spent much of their time camping before her death. He is survived by three daughters, Bonnie A. Budd and her husband, Rich, of Keizer, Thelma K. Toomb and her husband, Ken, of Lebanon and Lynda C.

Smith of Prineville; a brother, Winfred H. Mullins of Hartsville, S.C.; a sister, Anna Bess Clear of Bristol, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, six brothers, two sisters and a great-grandson, Chance Barlow. A son-in-law, Douglas Smith, died Feb. 21, 1998.

Howard Quinton Bates Howard Quinton Bates, 79, of Albany, died Monday, April 27 at his home. A memorial graveside service was held Friday, May 1 at the Brownsville Pioneer Cemetery. He was born in Axtel, Kan. on July 14, 1918 to Arthur L. Bates and Ruth (Marcy) Bates.

He grew up in Kansas and started working at 11 years of age. He moved to Oregon in 1935 and lived in Harrisburg. He moved to Brownsville in 1940 and to Albany in 1 941 He had lived there since. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a firefighter with the Albany Fire Department, belonged to the New Life Center in Albany and was a former member of the VFW. He married Evelyn Hemphill on June 16, 1940 at Shedd. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; three daughters, Pat Malo of Renton, Colleen Studeman of Wenatchee, Wash, and Faye Heskett of Winter Park, one son, Leroy Bates of Lebanon; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Marie, who died as an infant in 1941. The family suggests that memorial contributions be sent to the New Life Annie May Keeth Annie May Keeth, 92, of Scio, died Friday, April 24 at Villa (scade Care Center in Lebanon.

A graveside memorial service was held at the Miller Cemetery in Scio on Friday May, 1 with Pastor Randy Kramer officiating. Annie May Miller was born May 8, 1 905 in Horatio, the daughter of Obie and Lela (Ford) Miller. She lived in Arkansas throughout her childhood and much of her adult life. She moved to Nevada in 1952, where she resided until moving to Scio in the early 1990s. She was married to Benjamin Franklin Keeth on March 1, 1924 in Lockesburg, Ark.

He preceded her in death in 1 966. She is survived by her two sons, John Keeth of Scio and Harold Keeth of Hot Springs, one sister, Dovie Crutchfield of five grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Huston-Jost Funeral Home handled arrangements. John K. Mullins John K.

Mullins, 85, formerly of Nyssa and Ontario, died Sunday, April 26 in Prineville of natural causes. A graveside service was held at the Nyssa Cemetery with the Reverend Paul Farrell of the Nyssa Church of the Nazarene officiating. He was born in Mountain City, Tenn. on Jan. 18, 1913 to Venia (Phillippi) Mullins and John Hamilton Mullins.

He was educated in Tennessee and worked in the rayon mills in Elizabethton, Tenn. before moving to Ontario, where his brothers Frank and Tyler Mullins lived, in 1935. He married Georgia Houston in Payette, Idaho on Feb. 1, 1936. She died in 1986 soon after they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They moved too Nyssa, where Mr. Mullins worked on the construction of the Amalgamated Sugar Company. He later became a driver for the company and continued in that capacity until his retirement. He received many awards and commendations for his public relations on behalf of the company during his career. He was proud of the fact that he worked so many years for Amalgamated without making a customer mad at him or the company.
