A1 0 LebanooV(OR) Express, Wednesday, July 1 1 998 The Hodsons lived on E. Vine Street in Lebanon from 1967 to 1977. Mrs. Hodson worked for the Linn County Health department during those years. Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Jeannie Craves of Laguna Beach, Moira Taylor of Portland and Helen Park of Eugene; a brother, Richard Cushen of Modesto, four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsprings Friends School in Eugene. Marguerite Violet Hurd Marguerite Violet Hurd, 86, of Scio, died Wednesday, June 24 at the Albany Care Center. Services were held Monday, June 29 at Fisher Funeral Home, Interment was at Middle Verde Cemetery in Camp Verde, Ariz. She was born Oct. 16, 1911 in Libby, Mont, to Peter and Bessie (Hoppe) Rose.

She moved to Linn County in i 1964, settling in the ScioAumsville area. She loved hunting, fishing, gardening and anything that had to do with the outdoors. She was a homemaker who was married for 30 years to Alvin Roderick Hurd. She was a member of Alzheimer's Association and The Oaks Chapter in Lebanon. 1 She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 1990.

She is survived by two daughters, Marion Keenen of Scio and Helen Brown of Scottsdale, one sister, Murial Golden or Longview, four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She wafc also preceded in death by one brotheC Harold Rose. Jeannette Hodson Jeannette Mary Hodson, 84, of Eugene and formerly of Lebanon, died June 22 of age-related causes. Funeral services were held Friday, June 26 at Rest-Haven Memorial Park Funeral Home in Eugene.

Burial followed at Rest-Haven Memorial Park. She was born Jan. 12, 1914, in Spokane, Wash, to William and Jeannette Cushen. She married Charles Hodson in Alexandria, Va. on Dec.

7, 1941. She lived in Seattle; Garden Grove, Lebanon; and Fallbrook, before moving to Eugene. She received a bachelor's of science degree in public health nursing and worked as a public health nurse. lA 2 Ytog7 Dr. Rick Wopat Wopat honored for commitment to educating medical students Family physician Rick Wopat, who also serves as vice president and medical director for Samaritan Health Services, recent-; ly received the first-ever Community Preceptor Award from Oregon Health Sciences University.

The award, presented June 3 by OHSU Medical School Dean Joseph D. Bloom, M.D., recognizes Wopat's long-time commitment to medical education. Specifically, Wopat has shown i more than 30 Oregon Health Sciences University medical stu- dents what it's really like to be a doctor during six-week extern-; in his family medicine prac-. tice in Lebanon. The award, which will now be given annually, recognizes an individual "who has demonstrat-'ed outstanding dedication to enhancing the education of medical students in the clinical i Wopat said he tries to give students a deeper experience than what is learned by assisting in his office or at the hospital.

"I want them to get a sense of what it's like to live and work in the community," he said. "I try to have them spend some time working at the local free clinic and other settings that will make them feel a part of the communi- ty." In the years Wopat has served as a preceptor, two of his medical students have returned to Lebanon to establish their own medical practices. They are emer-: gency physician Timothy Edelbute, M.D., and family physi-' cian Mary Lou Belozer, M.D. Wopat is one of at least 10 local family physicians who serve as preceptors for third-and fourth-V year medical students attending OHSU.
